Treasure moments

I woke up this morning and realized how fast things are changing.
Being the dad of 3 makes you look back and realize that seasons change very quickly.
I'm really wanting to treasure the moments I have right now in my life and write them down so I remember them in the future.

Things I realized this morning:
- Mo will not always climb into my bed with his ice cube feet that find my stomach at 5:30a.m. and lay on top of me and find a way to breathe his awful breath into my face.
- Sofia will not always stick her tongue out and act like shes dying every time we can't understand what she is saying.
- Zeke won't always look at me with a goofy smirk and tell me he loves me 13 times a day.
- Moses will not always fall asleep right next to his door so that you have to bump him with the door 10 times before he wakes up.
- Sofia will not always dance her entire way through dinner. I won't always have to sneak a bite of chicken into her mouth as she's twirling and spinning.
- Zeke will not always decorate every square inch of our house for holidays. He will not always build bow and arrows and fans and peel the paint off his walls for no apparent reason.

All these days will pass. That's why I blog and tweet. Cataloging, remembering, and writing down is a discipline that God has implemented from the beginning of time. It's so easy to forget. Life moves so fast. Treasure the moments!

I like blogging

I'm finding the value in discipline.
Most things of value take time.
Our world is in the business of quick.
Blogs take to long to read...Facebook
People can write a paragraph in Facebook...Twitter
When 160 characters gets to cumbersome...prepare for grunts
I should market that now...could be worth millions.

I like blogging.
It forces me to be aware of my day.
And if I wasn't aware through the day it gives me a moment to look back.
I'm convinced that days and weeks and months and years can be forgotten.
Write in a journal...start a blog...get it on paper or electronic equivalent.
God was always telling his people to remember.
Don't forget...don't let you kids forget...set up some stones...eat some bread...drink some wine...do something to trigger your memory.

I'm glad I'm back at blogging.
I'm going to find a way to finish my book.
I don't want to forget.
God is good. He's good every day.
It helps to chronicle the journey.

Too pretentious?

So I'm getting the first looks at the new danlance.com and it's gonna be sweet.
Here's my question. Does having myname.com make you want to punch me in the face?
I used to do the revrock thing but someone stole that url.
I want a place that is a hub for all the stuff I'm working on but I kinda feel like a ding dong having a website that is my name.
Do I need to get over it or should I come up with something clever?
Beardedbaldwonderland.com :)

Content. Let me have it.

I'm putting the details together for my website.
Here's my thoughts...
Twitter feed
Super clean
3 buttons...band. blog. book.
A few epic shots of my beard.
The end.
Thoughts?

What kind of content are you looking for?
What did you like or hate about revrock?
Kids, adoption, music, God, politics, snippets of the book?
I'd like this website to rule.
I'd like to get back to comments and really try to foster a community up in here! (hee-yah)
Ok...one shot of the beard....

It's 2011...Could the blog make a comeback...we'll see

It's been over a year since my last post. Facebook kind of killed my blog and now I'm thinking about killing Facebook! I like Twitter for quick stuff and I love hearing from other leaders around the world, but I think I can do without Facebook. There's this pressure to get back to everyone and I don't do well with pressure. Plus I miss my blog. I really like Donald Miller's website. I'd like to set up something clean like that. I want a central place to talk about my family. I love having archives that chronicle our story. Plus I like an outlet to talk about ministry and the random stuff that rolls through my brain all day. On top of all that I want to have a central place that I can talk about the book I want to write, and a place to share the music that I'm writing. Sound good?
Anyone want to set up a website for me for cheap?
I'll give you add space and mad props and smiley faces every time I text you :)
No promises...but let's see what happens.
Anyone still out there?

Blog face lift

Anyone out there want to hook a brotha up with a sweet new look for my blog? I could use a sweet new banner.
Ian...I love the banner you made for me but it's been a couple years and I've gotta get the revrock out of the banner since I'm danlance.com now.
Don't have a lot of money, but I have a surplus of respect, hugs, and admiration for anyone that would work with me :)
Let me know.

My blog life

I used to be the man with blogs.
Pumped em' out on a daily basis.
One to two a day.
Kept the blogs current from the Stirring.
Then...Moses.
Blogs became shorter...more like bullet points.
But I still got them out there.
Then...Facebook.
Perfect solution to the short blog.
I could upload them through Twitter on my phone.
Quick...easy.
So what to do with my blog?
I'm still thinking about it.
Any ideas?

It's official...

I grabbed www.DanLance.com as my domain.
Right now I'm forwarding my blog there until I have the full website running.
I know it's a pain but if you could update your readers I'd appreciate it.
I bought it for a few years so I promise you won't get another switch from me soon.
Thanks.

Hello again...

I realize it's been a month since my last post and that's really weird for me. I haven't stopped reading your blogs, I just haven't felt the need to blog for myself. I guess I kind of got the wind knocked out of me when someone stole my domain name. But I believe now that all of that happened for a reason. It forced me to dream about some new possibilities.

www.DanLance.com

I haven't bought it yet but it's available. I want to have a central hub where I can keep all the things that are going on in my life. Social networking, my blog, the Stirring, my book, and my album. The website would be motivation to get on those last two parts...my book and my album. I have about 6 rough chapters to my book that I haven't looked at since Moses was born, and I have about 10 songs rolling around in my head that I'm dying to get recorded. So hopefully this is motivation.
Yesterday I spoke at the Stirring about wanting to live my life loud. The blogs, and books, and albums that stay locked up in my head and room have no chance to change the world. So here goes...we'll see where this goes!

Lame

Someone hacked my domain. Revrock.org has officially been stolen.
Godaddy is gonna get slapped!
I didn't get any notifications...it just expired...then some dude jumped on my url and is holding it for ransom.
Pissed!
What do I do?
In the mean time I've redirected my url back to www.reverendrockstar.blogspot.com

The silence

It's been almost a week.
I never do that.
I'm still trying to figure out facebook but I have to admit that it has stolen some of my social networking affection. It's quick and I can manage it on my phone in seconds...I'm lazy...sorry.
God is teaching me a ton right now.
Don't know if I could really articulate it in a blog so I wont.

This week...
Nate had his baby
My in-laws came to town
I spoke at the Stirring about Jonah.
God uses Jonahs...and Dan Lances...unbelievable!

I'm having a great Sabbath.
Life is good.
Shalom!

I'm half way through...really like it. Go buy it here.
I'm gonna use some stuff for my narrative class.
Scot's got a great blog...check it out.
What are you reading lately?
I've been reading a ton of Paul's letters for our series called "Honor" coming up...that Paul guy...he could draft quite a letter.

Started a new book tonight

The Drama of Scripture by Craig G., Bartholomew and Michael W., Goheen
Good stuff so far.
There were 358 women in my house tonight for a Christmas card / craft thingy...I escaped.
Great Sabbath today.
Slept
Played with my kids
Got pulled over for speeding right in front of Zeke's school and got let off! Is it physically possible to go 35 mph on Churn Creek?
Took Zeke out for a video shoot for a Christmas film
Helped Alyssa get the house ready
Went to Sean's to avoid the estrogen party. Thanks for dinner dude!

You've officially been pimped...

Adam needed some love to tell the world that his blog has moved. Go give him a blog hi-five.
In exchange for blog love I'm getting some tech love in setting up my wireless connection.
We totally need to move back to a bartering society...that would be awesome.
The only problem is my skill set kind of sucks.
I could pray for you.
Sing you a song.
Teach you how to be mediocre in golf.
Preach at you.
Give you advice that doesn't work in raising kids.
Pick paint colors for your house.
Pimp your blog.
That's all I got!
I'd probably go hungry in that kind of society...bummer.
I need to get good at a hobby or something.
Would anyone trade goods and services with me? Whatcha got?

we only have one jack in the house that works and that's in the bedroom.
only problem...Moses sleeps in our room right now...hence the dark picture.
can anyone tell me how to use my wireless router? it would be amazing to get on the internet and be able to see the keyboard.
I promise to have a productive post soon...

Did you miss me?

I haven't seen the internet in 6 days.
In that time I have...
Packed up an entire house
Painted an entire house
Moved into a new house
Spoke at the Stirring about the political elephant in the church
Go listen to it here if you want. I know Hagquist is chompin' at the bit
We have a new president
I have 104 blogs to read
Pretty crazy 6 days.
It's good to be back!

The Hub

Klein and Skinner pointed out that "the hub" is my new nickname.
For all my friends that still have no idea how to use an RSS feed.
I've been designated the dude that has a ton of links to peoples sites...so I get used to take you to other people...I'm ok with it.
How many of you out there are using me ? I just want to know what our blog relationship looks like. I can handle it...I'm a big boy!

Missed my own party...bummer

We blew past 50,000 visitors and I totally missed it. We were supposed to throw a big blog party and I blew it. Checked it two days ago and then forgot about it. Thank you to everyone that is hangin' out at RevRock. It's been a blast...frustrating at times...but I love the community of people we have comin' through every day.
I've just spent a couple days with my parents, my bro and his wife and I feel like the blog has really helped us stay connected through this transition of us moving up here. Mike and Becky definitely need a blog. Riverside peeps need to turn on the blog pressure for them!
Anyways, just wanted to say thanks.
If I could get you all in a stadium at one time I'd rock it like Obama and set up some sweet pillars to make me feel larger then life...then I'd tell a poop story about one of my kids!
Next blog party will not be a let down...
Just wait till 100,000!

Blog party

This week we are going to hit a pretty cool milestone at RevRock.org
At some point later in the week we are going to hit 50,000 visitors to the site and I want to throw a blog party. I'm not sure what all is involved yet but I'm pretty sure there will be party hats.
I know thats not many visitors compared to the big hitters out there but I love the little community that has sprung up from this blog. Riverside peeps, Redding peeps, random folk spread out all over the world...I love it.
You all have made this little corner of the internet a sweet place that makes me laugh and think and process the life that God has given me.
Please continue to comment and share your heart. It's those comments that gives this blog life.
Any ideas for the blog party?

The Stirring 2.0

So there are a lot of things on the ol' to do list right now as we are coming into fall and planting a church in 6 weeks. But one that we've been putting some time to lately is website and blogs.
Patrick showed us the new design for the Stirring site yesterday and it's amazing. We're using Covers promo photo for our We Love, We Make Disciples series that starts on Sunday...it will blow your mind. Plus I'm in the process of putting together and unifying all of our blogs. Our main blog is going to turn into our resource for Life Groups. Each week I'm gonna post thoughts and questions with Scripture from the weekend that Life Groups can tackle when they meet. I'm creating a Stirring Kids blog (just started) to communicate with parents. We have a Missions blog that Kari put together that is awesome, and I'm gonna work to make it look like all our blogs for the sake of a uniform look. (that's probably news to you Kari...sorry...sometimes communicating on my blog is quicker than actually talking to someone...I know that's really weird.) And eventually I'm gonna put together a Jr. High blog.
To me it just seems the easiest way to keep everyone on the same page. Parents can check in to see what's coming up and what we're all about and they can interact back and forth with teachers. People can track with where we are going as a church and add their feedback and questions. What do you think? Good idea?
