Lance family pics for winter 06

Favorite 2006 Christmas memory

Mine had to be going to my mom's parents house. We call them grandmother and grandfather because everything is super proper over there. Within the first ten minutes of being there my grandmother looked at me and said "Dan, you look terrible!" I said nothing but my wife and mom jumped in to my defense with, "well, he's really been sick this last week." And she continued with, "yeah...but you look REALLY bad!" My response was...thanks! Oh, the love and warmth of family during the holidays is overwhelming at times. Other than that my Christmas was awesome. I'll post some pictures soon. My son was totally into it this year which really made it for me. He's starting to get the whole Jesus thing and how he came to show us a better way to live.

Enjoy the new U2 love

This video rules...look for the band at the end of the video in the crowd

Looking to drop those 5 pesky holiday pounds

Just stay at home, get the flu and puke for 10 hours straight, and top it off with some explosive bowel movements and you've got all the right ingredients for some holiday weight loss. Worked for me. I think I might market it as a new diet strategy for the season. I just noticed this but you can totally see that we haven't finished out kitchen yet in this picture. We don't have doors on any of our cabinets. We really like to make our guests feel at home, so they can see where everything is really easily. Stay healthy.

To snip or not to snip

Male circumcision reduces the risk of HIV by half. Read the article if you're intrigued. Thanks for the random knowledge Ian!

Prayer for my father in law

Please pray for my father in law, Bob Krull. He went in today and they decided that he needs by-pass surgery. They were just going to do an angiogram but once he went in they knew they had to do surgery right away. I'll keep you posted.

Who's gettin' organized???

That's right folks...I just purchased the Desk Apprentice. You heard me right, the one they designed on the Apprentice like 3 or 4 seasons ago. It's got fun spots for your pens and scissors, files and thumb tacks. Now I have no excuse for being messy.

Beware Mickey

Disneyland here we come. We got passes for Jon and Kathy's wedding. They got married on Mark Twain's boat on Monday...it was awesome. Jon's dad Bill married them in the 13 minutes it takes for the boat to make the big circle. Jim McGill photographed their wedding and posted a bunch of pictures to music on youtube. He's amazing...he's going to submit some pieces for the Anthem art show we are having this Friday. Is that enough links for ya?

Myron and Betty (awesome)

This is Alyssa's grandparents from Indiana. This was an article that was printed up in their local newspaper. They're awesome. Check out how many church's Myron has been a part of...what an awesome legacy. (We made it in at the bottom of the list)
The Rev. and Mrs. Myron Oyler of Muncie will observe their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married on December 8, 1946 in the Richland Methodist Church by Rev. Louis F. Ulmer. Mrs. Oyler, the former Betty Jean Brown graduated from Sweetser High School, Grant County. She is retired from Bracken Library at Ball State University. Rev. Myron Oyler is a graduate of Converse High School, Miami County; Taylor University, Upland, and the Methodist Theological School, Delaware, Ohio. He served in the Army during World War II and is a retired minister. His former pastorates include Center Chapel and Antioch United Methodist churches, Grant County; Losantville and Blountsville United Methodist churches; New Paris (IN) United Methodist Church; DeSoto United Methodist Church; God's Freewill Tabernacle; Upland Christian Center, and Normal City United Methodist Church.
They are the parents of Sharon Kay Johnson (husband: Gary), Flint, MI; Gloria Lavonne Krull (husband: Robert), Riverside, CA; Susan Beth Moore, Ft. Wayne, IN, and Brenton Oyler, Muncie. Grandchildren: Jeannette Johnson, Nicholas Johnson (wife Beth), and Benjamin Johnson (wife Dena); Krista Clark (husband Samuel); Alyssa Lance (husband Daniel); Heidi, Adam, and Heather Moore. Greatgrandchildren: Joseph and Daniel Johnson; Kaitlyn Johnson; Conner and Gavin Clark; Ezekiel Lance. The Oylers celebrated their anniversary in early October when they were surprised by their children and families with a family gettogether.

Shipwrecks and beat downs

For those of you that are holding me to finishing the Bible in a year...it's probably not going to happen but I am still chugging along. I'm about a week behind but I just finished II Corinthians and Paul was one crazy homeboy. I've always read this passage as Paul letting people know how much he has suffered for God. But when you take in the context you see that he is proving his authority as an apostle by giving his resume of beat downs. Interesting that he would list his persecution as proof that he has the authority to speak to them...maybe that's why our words don't have as much authority. Just a thought.

II Corinthians 11:23-28 (NLT) I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again. 24 Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. 26 I have traveled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not. 27 I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm. 28 Then, besides all this, I have the daily burden of my concern for all the churches.

Quick prayer for the Lance's

Tonight I was running back and forth between Alyssa throwing up in one bathroom and Zeke throwing up in the other. Please say a prayer for our families health if you think about it. Thanks. Back to bathroom duty.

Chuck Norris Fact II

They were going to release a Chuck Norris version of the game clue, but the outcome was always the same: Chuck Norris, in the library, with a roundhouse kick!

Who's the man now???

No Beard!

As you can see, my wife pretty much runs the show around here. No beard for me...although I'm already rockin' a pretty mean 5 o'clock shadow. This just means I'm goin' Neanderthal Man after this dang picture...just wait for it. I'll keep you up with the progress...My beard grows ten times faster than the sparse patches of hair I still have on my head. Until next time.

to shave or not to shave

That is the question. My wife wants no beard for the Christmas picture. What's up with that? What do you think? I need some support here.

Help us name our dog!

So we just came home with a dog and we don't have a name for her yet. She's a Morky (half Maltese and half Yorkie) She's got red hair so I'm leaning towards "Scarlet." Weigh in with your ideas.

Hypothermia at home

This is seriously what I'm wearing in my house right now. 58 degrees the last two mornings when I wake up. (Not pictured...my gloves that I never take off) Our furnace has been out for about a month with a gas leak...good times. Since we've moved into our new house our dishwasher, oven, furnace, computer have all bit the dust...and oh yeah, our washer blew up last night with smoke pouring out of it and made our house smell awesome. We had to open all the windows which was fun because it was only 4 below last night. Gotta love home ownership! No complaints...I'm not whining, I honestly think it's pretty funny. Come visit us...don't forget your parka!

Obama's the bomb!

I've been at the HIV / AIDS summit the last two days at Saddleback. Check out the website. Barak Obama threw down today, I really enjoyed what he had to say. I'm so glad the right and left are both getting involved in the fight on AIDS. I came back realizing that I will probably end up adopting 30 kids from Africa and all over the world...better start buying some bunk beds. AIDS is everyones problem. 15 million orphans in Africa today because of AIDS, what the heck. Buy RED this Christmas. We already have all the crap we could ever need. Give your money to people that could really use it. More to say on this in the future...
