Staff meeting today
Nate and Erica had their little baby girl last night...amazing
so staff meeting went a different direction today.
We contemplated the normal christian life...
Matthew 10:7 As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' 8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.
What the heck?!?
How did normal become showing up to church and going to small groups?

such a good word about "normal"...
Ok, weird. I read that last night, and just shared it with Chris 3 hours ago. The Lord definantly wants us all to sift this part of scripture for all its worth.
and wearing sandwhich boards shouting at students that they're going to hell...
I think the question could be asked in reverse and get closer to the answer, "Since when did the Apostolic ministry during the time when Jesus dwelled on earth prior to the cross and resurrection become a 'normal' ministry model?"
It would seem Acts 2:42 would begin to answer your question about how what we have as church became normal, along with 1 Cor., Hebrews 10 etc. We definitely dont see what is in Matt 10 being promoted as "normal" in the Pastoral epistles, which would be a good place to find what post apostolic, post resurrection/ascension ministry should look like.
great staff meeting...brains peeing themselves, full chills, and feelings. love it!
on the other hand, i like to marvel at the "normal"...we get to enter sanctuary every week with the almighty maker of heaven and earth. we praise, we kneel, we confess, he forgives, he meets, he feeds and then sends us out to transform the world by very "normal" means: raising godly families, worshiping as a family, praying, caring for our communities....the list goes on. just because it doesn't feel extraordinary doesn't make it so. it is so very extraordinary.
every sunday as we gather as the covenant people of god and sing his praises we are doing warfare. let's not forget that.
