again sorry for not finding those old teachings on mp3...
Dan,
I know your into narrative theology, or as others call it, 'the story we find ourselves in". But is that how every book of the Bible is written, or are some books to be taken more as very discriptive as to how we are to live as Christians. I mean, more answer orientated.

Yeah, I think letters like Ephesians were written to a group of house churches in Ephesus and the surrounding areas to be circulated. I wouldn't say the letter is answer oriented. Paul is waring against the prevailing culture by showing them the amazing love of God that is unlike their gods like Artemis. It's not by works which was a foreign concept. There are no divisions in the church like there were in Ephesus. Then he gives the details to walking worthy of who we are because of what Christ has done.
I don't know if that answers what you were asking at all but just a few thoughts of my own.
9I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.
Next time we hang which will be soon...somewhere outside in the smoke might be nice..we can talk more about these verses.

Yeah...we should keep our "brothers" (people that claim to follow Jesus) in check. The world hasn't made the decision to be transformed into a new person. It's our brothers and sisters that we need to check in love. I'd love to talk about this stuff...let's hang dude!
