Is this cool?
I came across this today. I would never pay that kind of money for something like that but I wonder if this type of this is going to make books obsolete. It would save a lot of trees, and my backpack would weigh a lot less. It seems like the books version of moving from cd's to an ipod. I love the feel of a book and I highlight everything and write notes all over in the margins. Would you read a book like this?

Pros: very portable (what's the weight?); you'll probably be able to download books easily, instead of schlepping to the bookstore or library; no inky fingers; I read a lot -- a LOT -- of books on tape/CD, and this seems like a natural progression; much roomier bookshelves with more space for photos of the grandkids; it's shiny and pretty; I love all things GADGET
Cons: I, too, like to write all over my books; I love the way they smell; I love how the spine looks on a well-loved book; I love the wavy pages of book which was enjoyed in the tub; I love loaning a book to friends;
I just read more and you can bookmark, highlight and write notes in it. I like to lend to friends as well. But when everyone has one of these like an ipod I guess it wont matter.
In grad school, there is an increasing amount of stuff available online (especially here at IU) and so we're often assigned articles from journals that are only online. It's FAR more convenient from a paperwork standpoint to keep them on the computer... but I still print them all out because one can only read from a screen for SO long before getting a splitting headache.
I've been looking at the Kindle for a while. It looks perfect for someone who travels a lot. It's not backlit like a monitor, so eyestrain isn't a factor, and I love the idea of having my entire library available at once.
I also love the fact that you can buy and download books directly from it no matter where you are, BUT...
I'm way nostalgic for the smell of a new book, I look forward to the tactile sensation of flipping a page, and I love feeling a book's weight as I carry it around with me.
I think that the Amazon's Kindle is perfect for people who travel a lot and don't want to lug around books, but I think people will miss the paper counterparts.
CD's weren't a big part of the listening experience, and most if not all of us were glad to make the precess simpler with mp3s, and that's the big difference-the book itself is a part of the reading experience.
And I can't imagine curling up with a great Kindle download.
NO WAY!! I love the way books smell. You know, like walking into Barnes and smelling that delicious book glue and coffee smell. yum.
I never say never, but I never will have one of those.
I'm pro paper.... I don't think we need to put ourselves and children around more radiation...
there is just something about a book....I don't think I could do it!
