The Halloween homeless kid

I was reflecting this morning on Halloween's past as I watched my son parade around First Baptist Pre-school in his cowboy costume that he's wearing for the 2nd year in a row. I remembered what my Halloweens used to look like. We were super poor growing up and I remember on more than one occasion dressing up as a "Hobo" to go trick or treating. I'd wear grubby clothes...tie a bandanna to the end of a stick...and my mom would give me a beard by wiping vasoline on my face and attaching coffee grounds to it.
I don't know why but it just struck me for the first time this morning. I used to dress up as a homeless person on Halloween and ask people for candy???!!? Why was that ok? How insensitive to dress up and make fun of someone at a lower economic level than myself. Anyways...I just came to that realization this morning and thought I'd share.
Here's another Halloween tid bit...you're not opening up your child up to the dark underworld if you dress them up like Harry Potter or Sponge Bob. (Please don't forward this blog to Focus on the Family!)
