What are you putting under your pits????

So I've been trying to make conscious decisions about the products I'm using. Alyssa brought home some new deodorant for me yesterday. I moved away from the anti-depersperant a few years ago. So I decided to look at the ingredients and this is one of them: PPG-3 myristyl ether.
ETHER!!???!!! Isn't that the stuff that Hannibal from the A-Team would put on a handkerchief and put over peoples mouth's and they would wake up a day later tied to a chair with duct tape on their mouth!!! That can't be good right? Can anyone help me out here. If I wake up tied to a chair tomorrow I'm gonna be pissed.

What what... No Comments yet????

I know you have some regulars out there... and this is important stuff... You seem to have stumped us!

Here's some links to a helpful website that rates brands according to their danger level...

Side note: I guess, since the blog is on hold for redesign I'm resorting to posting ridculously long comments on other's blogs...

What was I going to say? Oh yeah... Doing what you're doing is important because it is one way that we can subvert the empire of advertisement and cultural assumption... You see, it's actually a briliant military tactic at play - distract the enemy with a big (somewhat effective) booms off in the distance, while your secret ops group quietly digs little holes around all your defenses... Here's the tie in... Our culture (Christian and Non) is obsessed with fighting against things like smoking (which undoubtably has very negative affects on our health) - BIG BOOM... meanwhile the things that are really killing us and weakening our defenses so that things like smoking most deffinately kill us are the things that very few people are even concerned about, much less talking about.... like the polution that all of our small decisions put into the air (okay...that one's getting some play these days), or the creams and oils made completely out of cancer causing materials that we smear all over our bodies every day to smell nice and fit into culture... and the foods that we ingest that make us fat but also weaken our immune system... or the foods that we ingest that are supposed to keep us skinny (splenda AND nutrisweet AND... any artifical sweetener...) but really teach our bodies not to burn fat and end up keeping us fat while at the same time destroying the brain cells (way more than some illegal drugs), weakening our immune system, and changing the composition of our cells (resulting in Cancer) ... these are the small things that are really killing us and destroying our Gode given vessles, while everyone is distracted by the "Cultural Sin" of the day..... COME ON PEOPLE! We have to be smarter than the world here...

Anyway - off the soap box - done with the rant - and no, TAVO, I'm not becoming a legalist like the SDA congregations you grew up in (please note that I did not paint all SDA congregations as legalists)... :-) - Dan, you should really talk with Jenn and Erin about this stuff... they've been doing a lot of research latley.

Here's that link - if you're still reading:

but the natural stuff doesn't have multimillion dollar marketing campaigns that tell me their product will get me women and make me a manly man.

so i jumped off the antipersperent bandwagon about 10 years ago. my thinking is, god made us to sweat, so it might not be the best to put heavy metals on my skin to make it stop.
anyways...
i've been on a decade-long quest to find an effective all natural deoderant.
easier said than done.
tom's of maine has a large selection of natural deoderants, but the current debate is that they use propylene glycol (a natural gas derivative, also used in antifreeze), but the FDA says it's perfectly safe and is also in many of our foods. it's also a project to find the one that works best with your body chemistry.
i'd say that your best bet for an all natural pit rub that doesn't include some weird sounding mystery chemical is 'the crystal'. it's like rubbing salt in your pits to kill the bacteria. most everyone i know who uses it says good things. just go to drugstore.com and do a search for natural personal care products. you'll get more information than you ever needed.
so that's my 25 cents.

um.
so.
i just looked at the website damien referenced...
and i'm a little freaked out.
well, maybe more than a little freaked out.
i'm about to go home and throw out most of the stuff in my bathroom.
but if it's not my shampoo that's going to kill me, it's the aspratame they sneak into my yoplait.
excuse me while i move to the woods and stop bathing.

this is why hippys smell bad

We use Trader Joe's unscented deodorant with cotton that contains no paraben or aluminum. Aluminum is the really bad stuff you definitely don't want in your pits!
