Life Group and the fall

So last night at life group we talked through the chapter in Sex God about mutual submission in relationships with reverence to Christ. Lots of great discussion. This morning I sit down to listen to the third teaching of Narrative Theology on the Mars Hill site. They were talking about the fall in Genesis 3 and I thought they made a brilliant point. As men and women in our fallen state we look to what we were created from to give us worth as opposed to our creator. Men were created from the dust which we are consigned to work at with the sweat of our brow. Our default many times is to find our worth in what we do (our work, the dust). We can be driven by busyness, struggle with self sufficiency and withdrawal. Women stop becoming a gift from God and turn into objects to acquire. Women were created from man and many times default into finding worth and meaning in relationships (men, children, friends). Women default into a desire to be pursued and noticed. No wonder we have such a hard time submitting to each other. We have this internal flaw that was redeemed in Christ and needs to be fought for daily to reclaim our worth that is found in our relationship with Christ.
One other great point was brought up. Satan's biggest points of attack in this world are on marriages and the church because they are both supposed to be a picture of who God is. The world should be able to look at the covenant of marriage and the unity and love in the church and get a better understanding of who God is. So if Satan can screw up those two institutions he can let us push people away from Christ in the way we live and move in the world. We end up doing his dirty work...Scary concept!
