What would you include?

I'm putting together the outline for covering the Bible in 13 weeks.
What do you include?
What do you leave out?
Creation...Deuteronomy 23:13...Sinai...Ezekiel 23:19-21
Jesus...Pentecost...Ehud (the left handed judge that stabbed the really fat king and lost his sword in his belly and his attendants thought he just had really bad gas)...
Seriously...so much good stuff...how do you narrow it down?
Thoughts?

One thing that really impacted me by going through a similar study was seeing the overall purpose/theme of the Bible as a whole; to see how the Bible was a love letter to us and to see God's overall plan. So everything that spoke to that was taught in more detail, while everything else was more summerized.

It seriously was the best thing to create a solid foundation for what I believed. It really helped me to understand the Bible as a whole and God's basic plan for us, which then helped me with all of His intercedings with the small details of my life.

Hope that helps!

I just taught through a 6 weeks class at SVCC. I used the creation fall redemption restoration outline. I also used James Choung’s True Story illustration as a teaching tool. Some of my references under Redemption and Restoration included Genesis 12, 18, Exodus 3, 19, 1 Kings 9, 10, 11, 2 Chronicles 26:15-23, Isaiah 42, 29, 53, 66, Amos 6:12, Malachi 3, 4, Matthew 1, 5, 28, Acts 1, 28, 1st Corinthians 2, 2nd Corinthians 4 and of course several spots in Revelation. Chris Wright’s extremely large book called The Mission of God was very helpful. Hope this helps.

I got it for you. A two part outline.

Part 1- How God uses fear to change us (Old Testament)

Part 2- How God uses grace to change us (New Testament)

In summary, you can try to explain how God changes (Heb 13:8). Good luck with that one.

Klein,

You would have to cut out lots of texts in both testaments to make there be

a. no grace in the OT
b. no fear in the NT

Hebrews 10
30 For we know him that said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Jesse P,

You are the man, although i don't think I know you. At any rate, my entire post was humor, but thanks for making it serious. I totally agree with you.

Vengence is the Lords, for He is the very one that tells us to repay evil with good. Why would He do any less?

And you have to admit, God seems to be a bit more ticked off in the old testament.

Peace

Got this in a forward once:

The Bible in 50 Words

God made, Adam bit, Noah
arked, Abraham split, Joseph
ruled, Jacob fooled, bush talked,
Moses balked, Pharaoh plagued,
people walked, sea divided,
tablets guided, promise landed,
Saul freaked, David peeked,
prophets warned, Jesus born,
God walked, love talked, anger
crucified, hope died, Love rose,
Spirit flamed, Word spread, God
remained.

Klein,

That stinks, being the serious guy when someone is joking...my bad. I now like the joke.

Give Papa Chuck a "hi" back from me.

jesse...you are the man...oh, because you are my brother....but i love this "13. Kingdom Consummated
- Kingdom of the world have become the Kingdom of our God and His Christ
- the true holy place
- with a true holy people
- worshipping at the feet of the Holy King"

Especially poignant this Advent and Christmas season as we sing the carols with confidence:

JOY TO THE WORLD! THE LORD IS COME! LET EARTH RECEIVE HER KING!....NO MORE LET SINS AND SORROWS GROW; NOR THORNS INFEST THE GROUND; HE COMES TO MAKE HIS BLESSINGS FLOW; FAR AS THE CURSE IS FOUND.
